Safety first: unplug for 24h, discharge caps, then assess whether recap is worth it.
-
Unplug and wait
Leave the unit unplugged at least 24 hours. Hi-fi caps can hold lethal charge — use a discharge tool if you open the chassis.
-
Identify bulging caps
Look for domed tops or leaking electrolyte around the power supply board. Photograph before desoldering.
-
Recap vs replace
Recap makes sense on quality vintage gear. On budget receivers where the panel or HDMI board is also failing, replacement may be cheaper.

Parts sourcing
Match capacitance, voltage (≥ original), and temperature rating. We stock common values for bench jobs — ask when you schedule.
