Handheld mods and service. Vita, DS, PSP: the pocket classics, modernized.
The Vita, the DS family, and the PSP are the handhelds everyone kept, and they age in familiar ways: dim screens, swollen batteries, worn buttons, storage formats that died. We modernize them honestly: screens where quality kits exist, batteries replaced safely, controls brought back to a click, storage made real. Every job is quoted after we look: kit cost plus labor. Walk in or ship it in from anywhere in the U.S.
What we do on the handheld bench
Quoted after we look. The number comes from your model, its revision, and the parts it takes, not from a menu.
Diagnosis
$49The $49 diagnosis answers the real questions first: which model and revision you have, what the battery is doing, which screen and storage options fit, and what the whole job costs. Free when you approve the work, and free when the verdict is not worth doing.
Screen work
Quoted after we lookReplacement screens where quality kits exist, fitted cleanly and tested: the Vita's gorgeous panel back to full brightness, DS family screens swapped for their modern equivalents. We tell you straight when a kit does not exist or is not worth it. Kit cost + labor.
Battery service
Quoted after we lookFifteen-year-old lithium is a liability, and PSP packs are famous for swelling. We replace batteries with proper cells where packs exist, dispose of the swollen ones safely, and test the charge circuit while we are in there. Kit cost + labor.
Buttons & controls
Quoted after we lookWorn D-pads, mushy buttons, drifting analog sticks: decades of thumbs, the same as every handheld. New membranes, buttons, and stick modules bring the click back. Kit cost + labor.
Modern storage
Quoted after we lookMemory Sticks and proprietary cards are dead or dying formats. We fit modern storage through the adapters that actually work, sized for your library, and verify the handheld reads and writes before it leaves. Kit cost + labor.
Why the handheld bench stays busy
Pocket consoles fail in patterns. These are the three we see most.
Batteries do not age gracefully
Lithium packs from the 2000s swell, dry out, and take their host down with them. A proper replacement cell is a safety job as much as a convenience one.
Analog sticks wear out first
The PSP stick especially: drift and dead zones after years of thumbs. A new module and a clean rebuild bring the control back.
The storage formats died first
Memory Sticks and proprietary cards outlived their makers. Modern storage through adapters that work is the difference between a shelf queen and a daily player.
Walk in or mail it in
Handhelds travel better than anything else on this site: small, light, padded on all sides. However it reaches the bench, the quote comes before the work.

What we don't do
Scope stated plainly, so you know before you ship anything.
Honest limits
- Repairs stay stock; mods are their own lane. A no-power handheld or water-damaged unit is a repair, quoted on the retro console bench after diagnosis. Once it runs, this page takes over. The full console front door is right here.
- No clone handhelds. The bench works on the real handhelds: Vita, DS family, PSP, and the Game Boy line. Emulator clones and pocket FPGA units are a different animal and not our lane.
- The storage is your library. We fit the storage and verify it reads and writes; what lives on it afterward is yours to manage.
- Full resto-mod commissions are the custom bench. One-off builds and project handhelds live on the custom bench, quoted per project.

Straight answers
Yes, quoted after we look like everything on the bench: screen work, battery service, button and stick rebuilds, and storage options where the adapters hold up. We tell you straight which mods are worth it on your model and which are not.
Swollen lithium is a real hazard, not just a dead battery: stop charging it and let us replace it with a proper cell and dispose of the old pack safely. Charge circuits get tested while we are in there. Quoted after we look: kit cost plus labor.
Yes, on the DS family where modern replacement panels exist, fitted cleanly and brightness-tested. We tell you straight when a model takes a kit that is not worth the money. Quoted after we look.
Quoted after we look. Every job is kit cost plus labor: we check your handheld, source the right parts for its model and revision, and hand you one flat quote before anything starts. Diagnosis is $49 and free when you approve the work.
Yes, anywhere in the U.S., and handhelds travel better than consoles: padded on all sides in a small box. If the battery is swollen, do not ship it loose: tell us first and we will walk you through packing it. We diagnose within 3 to 5 business days of arrival and email one flat quote.
Yes, and it has its own page: the DMG, Color, and Advance are the most modded handhelds ever made, with IPS screens, USB-C recharge kits, and full builds. The same bench handles both, sibling handhelds, quoted after we look.
